NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT— JANUARY-FEBRUARY 2012

HAPPY NEW YEAR. 

We sincerely wish each and every one of our members a very healthy, happy new year. 

 In order to insure a successful year for The Pittsburgh Club, we encourage you to pitch in and make a contribution to our club—both at club meetings and outside events.  Your suggestions and help are much appreciated.  Contact us by email: pghlasky@aol.com or by phone: 753-6132 if you’d like to make a suggestion or host an event.

 

In lieu of a January meeting, the Pittsburgh Club will hold a Casino Night on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at the Savannah Center -- doors open at 6:30.  Registered members only will be admitted since attendance is limited.  Also, if you have registered and find that you cannot attend, please call Joan to cancel at 753-6132.  Registrations will not be accepted  beyond  January 13. 

Our next regular meeting will be held February 16 in the Americana Room of Mulberry Center.  Following our business meeting we will be entertained by Leah Winstanley, a young girl with the voice of an angel.  Doors will open at 6:30 for membership renewal and activities sign ups. 

The Club is currently closed to new members, but will open membership  in September. 

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL:

Membership Renewals for 2012 will occur  at the February and March meetings.   New members should pick up their badges at the February meeting and must renew to get a “12” sticker at a cost of $5 per member.   Anyone unable to attend one of these meetings may renew by mail. 

Make your check payable to THE VILLAGES PITTSBURGH CLUB and mail to:  JOAN LASKY, 761 Barbados Place, The Villages, FL 32162.  Include a stamped, self-addressed envelope so that your “12” sticker can be returned to you for placement on your badge.

(2)  DINE ABOUTS

Terry Bauer and Cathy Johnson will be coordinating the dine abouts.  Reservations will be taken at the February meeting.  If you wish to sign up for Luigino’s please contact Terry at 874-4675 or bobandterry@me.com ,  ASAP.  Dine-Abouts are at 5:00 p.m.

·        February 21:  Amelia’s at the Waterfront Hotel in Sumpter Landing.

·        March 22:  Stavros’ on Rt. 441 in Fruitland Park.

(3)  CRUISE:  The Pittsburgh Club and Friends presents a 14-Night Transatlantic Sailing November 26 to December 10, 2012 on

the CELEBRITY EQUINOX.

 

This 14-night transatlantic cruise offers an exceptional itinerary.  We will fly to Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy, to board the beautiful, contemporary Celebrity Equinox.  Ports of call are:  (1)  Florence/Pisa (Livorno) Italy, (2) Provence (Toulon) France, (3) Barcelona, Spain, (4) Cartagena, Spain, and (5) Ponta Delgada, Azores.  We’ll enjoy 7 full days at sea and will return to Fort Lauderdale. 

 

The Equinox features spacious balconies on 85% of their outside accommodations.  Stateroom amenities include hairdryers, small refrigerators, 32-inch LCD TV with voice mail and caller ID and robes for use throughout the cruise.  Food options are plentiful from the Silhouette restaurant, Ocean view Café and Grill, Bistro on Five, and 24-hour room service.

 

Cabins are available at $1169 (inside); $1499 or $1669 (Balcony).  The cost includes:

·        Motor coach transfer to the Orlando airport November 25 and returning from Port Everglades December 10;*

·        Transfer in Rome ($80);

·        14 night Transatlantic sailing

·        Taxes and fees per person ($359)* 

·        $50 per cabin onboard credit.

*Motorcoach based on 25 or more people; taxes subject to change.

Air is additional and should be available by the beginning of 2012.  Please note:  if you wish to book your own air, departure should be on November 25.

A $450 per person deposit is due with reservation (by credit card or check payable to OMNI TOURS).  A second payment of $450 is due March 15, 2012, and final payment is due August 24, 2012.  Cruise cancellation policy per person:  Full refund until August 23, 2012.  Optional insurance is available.
